I read a story today about a woman who recently inherited over $40M from a relative she never knew. Can you imagine the surprise phone call she received notifying her of this inheritance? What would you do if you received a similar phone call?
What if I told you, as a follower of Jesus Christ, there is an eternal inheritance for you that far exceeds any inheritance you will receive while on earth? It's true! And knowing this truth, should such knowledge encourage you to live differently?
In Matthew 5, Jesus addresses His followers and makes it clear that the kingdom of heaven is an inheritance awaiting those who live as Jesus prescribes.
And the best part - no one can take this inheritance away from you. It's yours for all of eternity!
What's also so good to know is that with this inheritance comes a new body that is free from pain, sickness, and death. 2 Corinthians 5:1 says, "For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands."
What will we look like in heaven? No one knows for sure. The bible doesn't make this clear. We do know, "What we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is." - 1 John 3:2
It's exhilarating to question and wonder what heaven will be for us. Of course, the most important question is, "Will you be there?"
You can know for sure that you will be heaven if you have given your life to Jesus!
"If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved...for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." - Romans 10-9,13
Be encouraged today. Though you may not receive a phone call in this life notifying you of a $40M gift, you can celebrate every day knowing that Jesus has provided a way for you to receive an inheritance that is literally out of this world...and it will be yours for all of eternity!
